The City of Algona (pop. 5,487), located in north-central Iowa, and the county seat of Kossuth County is seeking applicants for the position of Cemetery Superintendent. The Cemetery Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance and care of all buildings, grounds and equipment for both East Lawn and Riverview Cemeteries.

Description
The Riverview and East Lawn Cemeteries are places of honor and remembrance for the loved ones buried there. To show the proper respect to those loved ones, the Cemetery Superintendent is charged with maintaining the beauty and integrity of the cemetery grounds year-round. The Cemetery Superintendent is responsible for all grave openings and closings, enforcing cemetery rules and supervising seasonal help. Additionally, the Cemetery Superintendent has a variety of duties which include maintaining and operating heavy equipment to dig graves and remove snow. The Superintendent also helps prepare annual and capital budgets for each fiscal year. This position reports to the Director of Public Works/Deputy City Administrator.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a valid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 120 days of employment, and an Iowa Pesticide-Insecticide Applicator’s License within one year of employment. Preferred qualifications include cemetery management, ability to operate heavy equipment, or experience in groundskeeping, carpentry, or turf management.
