General Job Summary:

This is a per course contracted position based on need as determined by the Dean of CTE and Workforce. Must evaluate and report student performance and progress in courses in accordance with college and division policies and procedures. Must meet Adjunct Faculty qualifications.

                                 Essential Duties / Responsibilities                                 1.      Effectively organize and teach in contracted courses in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules and locations.

2.      Evaluate, report and record student performance and progress in accordance with college and division guidelines.

3.      Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught.

Frequent(34-66%)1.      Be available for student consultation and make referrals, when deemed necessary, to other College personnel, such as Executive Dean, Counselor, Financial Aid, etc. for more specialized information and assistance.2.      Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory use.
Occasional(10-33%)1.      Encourage and foster student participation in college activities and events.2.      Attend scheduled orientations and meetings of Adjunct Faculty.

3.      Complete required on-line staff development courses.

Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:

  1. Represent the College in a positive manner with prospective, former and current students, staff and the community.
  2. Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
  3. Present oneself in a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies and practices.
  4. Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  5. Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and other contacts.
  6. Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.
  7. Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.
  8. Be a creative energetic and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  9. Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
  10. Ability to communicate and coordinate activities and instruction with college personnel.

Special Demands:

Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting. The physical requirements of a automotive technician are required. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, waking, grasping, talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force frequently, 50 pounds of force occasionally, and infrequently higher force. Required to operate equipment common to the automotive technology trade. May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications: 6,000 hours (3 years) of tested experience OR an associate degree in the field and 3,000 hours (1½ years) of tested experience.

Salary:  $675 per credit. Classes may vary from one to three credit hours.
