From early childhood to college, Kossuth County offers residents lifelong learning opportunities. Kossuth County schools offer safe, drug-free environments and boast a drop-out rate less than 1%. Several communities offer preschool experiences for toddlers. Public and private K-12 education is available in school districts with enrollments ranging from 200 — 1,400 students.
Iowa Lakes Community College, Buena Vista University and Briar Cliff University along with several other universities offer distance learning opportunities at a convenient local center. Post-graduate and continuing education is available for those wishing to pursue new interests and advanced studies.
Beyond The Basics
Student achievement consistently ranks very high when compared nationally in the areas of reading, math, science and social studies. Students in Kossuth County typically rank above average in student achievement in comparison to other Iowa students. Locally, over 85% of eligible students take the American College Testing program (ACT) test. Of these students, over 92% exceed the nationwide standard score of 18. Nearly 90% of Kossuth County students pursue post-secondary education.

Local schools have estimated endowments in excess of $20 million. These endowments provide scholarship support for current and former high school graduates for post-secondary education.
